Neck pain when working on laptop
Do you feel neck pain, back pain or another muscular ache symptoms after using laptop for a long time? Dont worry, you may not be alone. There are milions of laptop user out there that may experience the same thing. This assumption is not a bluff. According to occupational safety and health administration USA, the best position on using computer is the neutral position. It reduce the tension on the muscles, tendons, and reduces your risk to develop any musculoskeletal disorder. Image below shows some basic guidelines.
I quote some important information for you here:
- Hands, wrists, and forearms must be straight, in-line and roughly parallel to the floor.
- Head is level, or bent slightly forward, forward facing, and balanced. Generally it is in-line with the torso.
- Shoulders os in relax position and upper arms hang normally at the side of the body.
- Elbows position is not to far from body bent between 90 and 120 degrees.
- Feet are not hanging. It must be stay on the floor. Hanging may lead to muscle contraction and pain after prolong use.
- Back is leaning to the chair naturally.
- Thighs and hips are supported by a well-padded seat.
- Knees position are about the same height as the hips with the feet relaxly put forward
How laptop user can develop neck pain so quickly?
- Laptop monitor position is not the same level with eye. It cause you to flex forward the head, stretching the muscle, leading to sore pain.
- Laptop user cannot always find the ideal chair as desktop user in above guidelines example. Thus, maintaining good posture in near to impossible.

- Check above picture position. The girl seems enjoying using the laptop in bed. Is it true?Using laptop in bed is very painful experience. after 3-4 hours of using it, the neck muscle will be over extended. Guess what the result are. So above image advertising is noot good example on posture. Do not follow it.
- For some laptop, that we love always!!the small portable laptop, may not have a good spacious keyboard. Most will be cramped to small chasiss. This leads you to RSI syndrome (repetitive stress injury) because you actually force yourself to type in that such small keyboard.
At the end, control your position during your day playing or doing your job with laptops. Have a bright day
